Movie Ratings
The Motion Picture Associate of America (MPAA) sets movie ratings. MPAA ratings are only applicable to channels showing movies that have not been edited to meet broadcast TV content standards, such as Pay Per View, Video On Demand and premium channels like HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, Encore, etc. Movies with an MPAA rating of "PG" or "PG-13" will typically have a more mature content or theme than an edited movie or TV program with a "TV-PG" or "TV-14" rating. | |
| G | GENERAL AUDIENCES Contains nothing that is likely to be offensive to most parents whose younger children view the film. This rating does not, however, always indicate a children's film. |
| PG | PARENTAL GUIDANCE SUGGESTED A film that should be watched or asked about by parents before their children view it. There may be some profanity, violence, or brief nudity, but not enough to merit a stronger warning. |
| PG-13 | PARENTS STRONGLY CAUTIONED Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Expect a more mature theme and violence, nudity, or adult language. |
| R | RESTRICTED Adult material, which may include language, tough violence, nudity with sexual content, and drug abuse. |
| NC -17 | NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 17 Films carrying this rating generally contain graphic violence, strong sexual content/nudity, drug abuse or any other elements which, when present, most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children. |
| AO | ADULTS ONLY This is programming that is sexually explicit an, in most cases, not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America. Adults Only selections are not intended for viewing by children or teenagers and contain subject matter that some adults may find offensive. |
